So things are changing and progressing in life as they always do. To best live comfortably in this world we have to adapt and improvise so that we don't get left behind or fall to the wayside. I foresee some major changes coming along in my part of the world and I am getting myself prepared to adapt to those changes.

This year, 2017, in NYC, the minimum wage increased to 11 dollars an hour. Next year it goes up again and ultimately the goal is to establish a 15.00 per hour minimum wage.

The problem for me is that the business I work my day job in may not be able to absorb those salary increases. Normally, the idea is to pass those increases on to the customer, but there is only so much a person will pay to have their packages delivered on a per package basis. It could affect the on demand courier industry dramatically. Conceivably, the company I work for could go out of business. To be clear, I am not railing against a 15.00 minimum wage. On the contrary, I welcome it and think it is long overdue.

My concern is that I may not have a job in another year or two and therefore feel I have to prepare for that possibility in advance.

I don't have any interest in pursuing a 9-5, 5 day a week, punch the clock kind of job. I currently work from home and have a lot of freedom. After 10 years of working from home, it would be very difficult to transition to commuting and working in an office again.

With these possibilities in mind, I have decided to expand the type of work I do for commissions. Along with the regular commissions I am doing now, I am going to start taking on other types of work, such as comic book sequentials, character portraits, character designs and more graphic adult work. I am also preparing to start offering traditional art commissions, where I mail out the original artwork and expanding the forms of payment that I take. I'm considering starting a store envy site to also offer original artwork that I create on my own for fun.

Self publishing is also an option now. There are plenty of printing services that offer great rates. I mean, like really GREAT rates :D

I don't know if any of that is going to be successful but it's worth a try.

What I do know is that I don't want to find myself with working a full time 9-5 gig as an only option. I like my freedom.

Happy New Year, peeps ! Thanks for all the support over the years and making my DA experience incredibly fulfilling.
